How to Create
a Transparent GIF Image by Akira Kato

Move your mouse over her.
Its Original Picture
You can use your favorite graphics program. I used the PAINT program that came along with the Windows system.
With your creative knack, retouch the original so that it could look better in its transparent form. Then you use your favorite graphics program to covert it into a transparent GIF image. My favorite program is JASC Paint Shop Pro. You can download its trial version from the following site: You can use it free of charge for 60 days.
Once you load your picture into the program, click the Image from the menu bar. Then click Palette from the pulldown menu. You will see another extended menu as shown above. From some choices, select Set Palette Transparency .
If your original picture has more than 256 colors, the program insists that you have to reduce the number of colors used to 256 or less.
Once the number of colors reduced, you can set the transparency value by check the radio button or by clicking the color on the picture with your mouse pointer as shown above. Once done, click the OK Button. The program will prompt you for a name of the newly created transparent image.
How can you create a transparent GIF animation? I will explain it in the next page. Click the following link: Ditzy Blonde or How to Create a Transparent GIF Animation
